A world within a world within a world. This is what can be found at 2 Rawstorn Road, Colchester between November and February this winter. If you care to wander past this shop day or night you will notice it is called "In Stitches". Look through the window and you will see what appears to be an appealing selection of antique objects d'art masterfully selected by "Cripes & Co." proprietor Janet Harris. Care to look again and you may notice pictures on the walls by painter Jane Ostler and other artists whose identities have been lost or forgotten.
Janet Harris and Jane Ostler would like to announce a collaboration. Hanging amongst the curious and the good are pictures offering diversion in these times of austerity. Paintings, prints and drawings join the elegant and ambitious selection of antiques at this small but unique establishment. Upon first impression and struck with the intriguing objects in Janet's shop "Cripes and Co." Jane asked if she might show her pictures there. "I had been looking for a perfect space to show my work for ages and then I just came across this beautiful shop full of a diverse set of random but well loved domestic objects and felt that my pictures might sit happily alongside them". Old Oxo tins, metal signs, kitchen moulds, ginger jars, and antique wood furniture have all been lovingly chosen by Janet Harris and are only some of the items on sale here. Hand-knitted jumpers are also on offer and provide a link to the former life of the premises, a shop specialising in bespoke knit-ware called "In Stitches".
During November 2010 to the end of January 2011 Jane will have a presence at "Cripes & Co." at "In Stitches", 2 Rawstorn Road, Colchester, Essex, CO3 3JE. Opening hours: 9.00-5.00, Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday.
